What started as a spontaneous moment at a student party turned into a pole dance journey of confidence, community, and self-discovery for our student Riccardo. From feeling stiff and unsure to mastering new tricks at his own pace, his experience with pole dancing has not only improved his physical abilities but also expanded his social horizons and sense of belonging. Here comes Riccardos’ pole dance story.
Dancing into something new
Riccardo started pole dancing seven years ago, and it all began quite randomly. He was at a cool queer student party where the organizers had set up a pole, although, unfortunately, no performances were planned. At some point during the night, he found himself dancing while holding the pole, and he realized it was really fun. That sparked his curiosity, so he decided to attend a trial lesson with Jazzy – and from there, he was hooked on his pole journey.
From stiff beginnings to increased confidence
Having never attended any dance classes before, Riccardo initially felt a bit stiff and out of place in class. But despite these challenges, he kept showing up, gradually gaining confidence and becoming more comfortable with his body. Pole dancing has become a hobby for him, and he likes to take his time, learning new tricks at his own pace.
“I really appreciate how patient the teachers at Gravity Arts are – they ensure the students master all the basics before introducing more advanced moves. Also, when learning something new, I always feel safe because they spot me and give me the feedback I need to improve.”
He also loves how the classes focus on different aspects of pole – like tricks, flow, floor work, and flexibility – which keeps it interesting and balanced.
Finding community and expanding horizons
What we’re super happy about and love knowing is that one of the things Riccardo enjoys most is the atmosphere and the sense of community at Gravity Arts. Even if he is one of the few men in the classes – sometimes the only one – he has always felt very welcome. He also says that spending time at the studio and in class made him realize that most of his friends back then were men, and it pushed him to expand his social circle and connect with people of different genders as well.
What more could we ask for? Riccardo’s pole dance story is truly inspiring, and we’re thankful to be part of it and accompany him along the way. Here’s to many more moments of learning, connection, and expanding horizons!
