A single pole class during a hen party sparked a love that never faded. Years later, after a challenging chapter in her life, Déborah found her way back to herself, to her strength, and to pole dance at Gravity Arts. This is the story of reconnecting, growing, and falling in love with the journey.
From a Hen Party to a Life-Changing Journey
Some journeys begin quietly. Others start with a spark that never fades.
Déborah’s story began in May 2019, during a hen party for a best friend in France. Among the celebrations, the group took a pole dance class. Just for fun, or so it seemed at first. But the moment Déborah touched the pole, something shifted. It was love at first sight. A promise was made to herself: one day, she would return to pole.
Life, however, had other plans.
Years went by, filled with changes, responsibilities, and eventually a very stormy period during which Déborah lost almost everything. By September 2024, it became clear that something had to change. It was time to reconnect — with herself, with her body, and with dreams that had long been put on hold.
That was the moment she decided to finally begin her pole journey.
Finding Gravity Arts
Déborah began searching for a studio close to home, one that felt welcoming and offered flexible class times. This search led her to Gravity Arts Studio in Winterthur.
Her very first class with Julia remains unforgettable. It was more than an introduction to pole. It was a confirmation of the feeling she had experienced years earlier. For the first time in a long while, Déborah felt completely in the right place.
Falling in Love with the Process
What Déborah loves most about pole dance is the unique combination of power, beauty, and elegance. The challenge of executing demanding tricks in a way that appears graceful and effortless.
Pole dance has also transformed Déborah’s relationship with her body. She feels more at peace with it now, learning to appreciate it more with every class. Her body has become her most precious tool.
Of course, the journey is not without challenges. Déborah is not the most flexible, and certainly not the youngest, she says, laughing. Yet every drop of sweat, every bruise, every failed attempt is worth it. For the first time in her life, she truly feels that effort and dedication pay off. Even pain has taken on a new meaning, becoming a sign of growth and progress.
Sisterhood, Strength & Empowerment
One of the most meaningful aspects of Déborah’s journey has been the people. Through pole, she has met some of the most inspiring and powerful women she has ever known. The diversity, the sense of sisterhood, and the empowerment she feels — whether alongside instructors or fellow pole sisters — are incomparable.
Gravity Arts is more than a studio. It is a space where strength is celebrated in all its forms, where everyone is welcome, and where no one walks their journey alone.
Just the Beginning
This story could go on for hours. Pole dance has become one of the most essential love stories of Déborah’s life.
She has no intention of stopping anytime soon, and already looks forward to the next bruises. Each one brings her a little closer to her dream. Déborah’s journey has only just begun 🖤
